America should not re-instate the draft
There have been wide spread talks of re-instating a military draft due to low recruitment. Many top officials feel that there is no need to re-instate it. I agree. The military draft has not been used since Vietnam and when used there people left America or just left the army. It caused a great divide in America. We should not be forced to fight a war. We should not be forced to be put in harms way and possibly be killed because of poor judgement and poor planning. America should never be forced or asked to do something like that again. Vietnam was a mistake and 55,000 men died because of it. Only 1,708 have died in Iraq but the Iraqi insurgency is more powerful then the Vietnamese. They have more forces in fact they have millions of American hating Muslim fanatics at arms legnth. If the draft is reinstate America would have repeated the future and more will likely die in Iraq then in Vietnam if it is reinstated.

Whether You Support Or Oppose The War, You Should Favor The Draft
If you support our presence is in Iraq then you should favor a return of the draft. Enlistment is down, and the shortage of recruits is putting an unfair burden upon and extending the tours of duty of Marines, National Guard and others serving there. The poor and the lower middle class are doing a disportionate amount of the fighting and dying in Iraq. If fighting in Iraq is good for America, then all American families should willingly sacrifice for the cause.

If you oppose our presence in Iraq then you should favor the draft. Much of the enlisting and soldiering in this war has been done by the less educated, conservative-leaning, rah-rah types. They don't ask many questions. Draft a few rich college kids, and you'll really start to hear an intelligent and vociferous debate about our occupation of Iraq. The campus protests in the 60's and 70's led to our exit from Vietnam. Time proved conservatives' domino theory wrong and the war a mistake. We need more anti-war voices.

This is the place for debate with an added element of friendly competition. This is a debating and essay resource and practice tool, not a debating society or club. There are no complicated rules, but these debates have structure. Each debate consists of a topic with two opposing views.

These are short essays limited to about 150-165 words. Present your strongest argument the first time, since you can't go back to change it--as with the National Forensic League and other speech and debate formats. Read these debates, then vote for your favorite arguments.

These debates are fun, informative and give exposure to all sides of the issues. Most debates will be archived (arguments that are obscene or offensive may be deleted). The better and more interesting debates will be featured.
