A ban on burning the flag is nothing but grandstanding and hypocricy

The arguement of those who would ammend the US Constituion to ban burning the flag fails on its own terms. You can't support such an ammendment without attacking the Constitution itself. Think about it. The 1st ammendment of the Constitution establishes freedom of the press. This freedom has been long established by Supreme Court rulings as meaning freedom of expression. In other words, all expression that is not itself an illegal act (e.g. fraud or child pornography) is protected, not just newspapers or books. Those who support the ammendment find flag-buring offensive. In other words, it's communicating a message to them that they don't like. Well, that's exactly what the 1st ammendment protects. Ban supporters want to stop flag burning (which is an extremely rare occurance anyway) precisely because it is a form of communication. In fact the 1st ammendment is most meaningful when it protects unpopular speech. Support the Constitution, not the symbol.

ban burning the flag

I think flag burning should be banned, and should not be protected under any law not even the 1st amendment or any of the amendments, because even the amendments should have a limit to what they can protect and what they can’t. to me flag burning should be a high treason, for discrimination of our countries symbol of freedom, even if it’s to protest against a law or a war. And for those who burn the flag should be killed under a U.S. flag
